The Basics
Avoid unhealthy habits: Don't smoke, drink excessive alcohol or use illegal drugs.
Sleep well: 7-8 consecutive hours of deep sleep a day is a must for mood and memory.
Numbers count: Keep your body weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels within recommended ranges.
Don’t be overly medicated: Certain drugs dull the mind and make you feel more like a patient and less like a person.
Turn off the tube: Too much TV watching weakens brainpower, although programs like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" can be beneficial.
Reduce stress: Good emotional support,
meditation, breathing relaxation techniques, positive attitude
towards life, yoga, tai chi and spirituality are all good
ways to help reduce stress.
Protect your brain: Take precautions against injuries. Use your car seat belts, or wear a helmet when cycling.
